2.2 Abuse Can Occur Anywhere

It is important to understand that vulnerable adult abuse can happen anywhere. There is no specific place and time for it. It often occurs in homes but is equally possible and does occur in public places.

Abuse can occur when vulnerable adults are in their own home, sharing the space with others, in a hospital setting, in a hospice, or in any other facility. It can be inflicted on vulnerable adults by any person around them.

In many cases, abusers are often caregivers or family members, but strangers can also inflict harm on vulnerable adults.

Vulnerable adults often trust the person who may be abusing them, and in some cases, vulnerable adults may not be aware of the fact that they are being abused, especially when it comes to abuse related to their treatment, health decisions, and financial decisions.
