3.3 Screening Measures

There are some available screening measures used to assess vulnerable adult abuse; however, according to the USPSTF, these measures have not been proven to be valid or reliable for screening abuse, specifically vulnerable adult abuse.

These instruments include:

• The Humiliation, Afraid, Rape, Kick tool (HARK)
• The Hurt, Insult, Threaten, Scream tool (HITS)
• The Extended-Hurt, Insult, Threaten, Scream tool (E-HITS)
• The Partner Violence Screen (PVS)
• The Woman Abuse Screening Tool (WAST).
