Cybercrime is concerning when it comes to ePHI. So, guidelines are required for the management of cyber threats. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued voluntary cybersecurity for this purpose.

When PHI is electronically handled, all information that is transferred, disclosed, and collected electronically is at risk of being exposed to cyber threats.

If ePHI is not managed effectively, data breaches might occur, and an individual’s PHI can be compromised.
