5.1 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Its Importance

Personal protective equipment, or “PPE,” is clothing made to reduce exposure to hazards that could lead to serious medical complications at work. These injuries and illnesses could be caused by chemical, radioactive, physiological, transmitting power, mechanical, and other workplace hazards.

PPE includes gloves, glasses, shoes, earbuds or muffs, face shields, respiratory protection, protective gear, vests, and clothing.
