7.9 Outbreak Control Procedure

When an outbreak is suspected and confirmed, the following procedure should be followed:

1. Confirm the existence of the outbreak
2. Confirm the diagnosis
3. Develop a case definition
4. Create line listings
5. Construct an epidemic curve
6. Develop and test a hypothesis
7. Implement control measures
8. Communicate with patients/hospital personnel/develop a strategy for dealing with media
9. Screen personnel and environment
10. Write an outbreak report
