1.3.1 Social Care Costs

In terms of the direct expenses of medical and social care and the costs of informal care, dementia has enormous social and economic consequences. The estimated global societal cost of dementia was $1.3 trillion in 2019. This situation has resulted in severe poverty among households and has emotionally impacted caregivers.
As the number of individuals with dementia and the cost of care rise, these expenses are projected to reach $2.9 trillion by 2030.
