3.8.3 Amendment

The Rule allows people to request that covered entities update any erroneous or missing protected health information contained in a specified record set.

If a covered entity grants a request for an amendment, it is required to take reasonable steps to disseminate the modification to anyone who has requested it, as well as anybody who the covered entity believes might use it against the individual.

Moreover, if the request is rejected, the person must get a written refusal from the covered entity and be given a chance to make a statement of disagreement for the record.
